A Doula's Role
Physically, the Doula helps with:
- position changes/movement
- bathroom breaks/clean up
- relaxation/massage
- breathing/focus
- various other comfort measures
Emotionally, the doula offers:
- constant reassurance and support
- a relaxed mood (lighting/music)
- imagery/visualization suggestions
- an encouraging environment
- a special woman-to-woman connection
Informationally, the Doula provides:
- details during the labor and birth
- reminders about coping skills
- choices involving interventions
- mediation with care providers
No medical care, advice or
interpretations will be provided.
